A Celebration of our 45th Anniversary

Join us for a second concert in honor of Nevenka’s 45th Anniversary, featuring music performed from the year 2000 to today.

Nevenka will be joined by special guests, including acclaimed Bulgarian singer Tzvetanka Varimezova, Nevenka’s teacher, mentor and friend for the past two decades. 

Our venue is the beautiful Farnsworth Park Amphitheater in Altadena. This spacious outdoor venue can accommodate all who wish to celebrate and reminisce with Nevenka.

Join Nevenka as we put on our dancing shoes at the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Festival! Members of the Ensemble will be joining our friends in Orkestar Pečurka as special guest dance teachers to teach Festival guests some Balkan dances.

Nevenka will be joining the Faith Community Nurses for A Service of Prayer and Presence, to support nurses in Ukraine.

We are so pleased to present our first live concert since the pandemic began. Join us for a trip down memory lane, with songs from the early days (1976-2000) of Nevenka. We are delighted to sing with a full tamburica orchestra once again, as well as other surprise musical guests!

This is an outdoor concert in Santa Monica, CA.

Nevenka will sing a few tunes at the FolkWorks virtual musical celebration, featuring live online performances from a variety of musical genres. There will also be hosted breakout rooms for open mic performances, song/tune swaps, and chatting.

A live online concert

For the past year, the singers of Nevenka have been keeping their voices in shape (and their spirits up) by serenading each other during weekly online meetings. We've been having so much fun that we decided to create an “open mic” style event to share with all of you.

Join us for a casual and eclectic online concert, with solo performances by the different members of Nevenka. Many genres of music will be included as well as a number of original songs.

Nevenka is celebrating our 45th anniversary this year! As part of our retrospective, we thought it would be fun to present an informal talk about the songs from our first CD, recorded in 1987.

We will play 10-12 songs from that album and share stories and memories about the early days of our group, and about the roots music and world music scenes in the U.S.

For the past few years Nevenka has presented lectures at Occidental College in Los Angeles, to acquaint world music students with Bulgarian music. We’ve decided to open this to the public, and so we are presenting our first ever virtual lecture/demonstration: an introduction to the fascinating and beautiful music of Bulgaria.

Topics will include: four of the geographical regions of Bulgaria and the musical styles associated with each region; traditional Bulgarian instrumentation, harmonies and rhythms; choral arrangements of folk melodies from the 20th century to the present; and a Q&A discussion at the end. We will play audio and video recordings to accompany the lecture.
